FYWA’s first zine, Women Artists: Interviews, is now available for purchase! Thanks to everyone for keeping up with our updates and a special thanks to everyone who helped fund the project. Purchase here.

The zine is currently available exclusively through the webshop Fangirl for $10 + $1.50 (domestic) to ship.

About the zine:

Women Artists: Interviews is a 32-page hand-bound booklet featuring interviews with artists Cake, Alice Mizrachi, Tara Marynowsky, Katy Horan and Angel Oloshove. The interviews explore their role as a woman artist, their communities and influences.

The booklet is printed in color and black and white to help bring down the cost to make it more accessible to everyone. Full-color copies are available upon request. Contact me at carolineeknowles@gmail.com.

Hello everyone! I shared this earlier this week with the contributors to our Kickstarter project and wanted to share it with all our followers - it’s our official zine cover! The design is by the very talented illustrator, Naomi Elliot. She did a fantastic job and I couldn’t be more pleased.

The zine will feature interviews with women artists of all mediums - street art, ceramics, illustration, painting, etc. It will be available next month. :)

The results from Pitchfork People’s List were published today, and 88% of voters were male. (12% were female, there wasn’t an “other” option, fwiw.) Since I Am The Twelve Percent and I spend a lot of my time talking about and thinking about and writing about music, I wanted to ask a couple…

This articulates a lot of my feels.

I do actively seek out music both new and old and enjoy it thoroughly. I like talking about music sharing it with people who I think will appreciate it, but beyond that I have very little interest in participating in any discussion of what is GOOD or BEST. That isn’t interesting to me. I’m not interested in how great OK Computer is and how many people agree about that. If I’m going to talk to anyone about music, I care more about how that one summer they only listed to Taking Back Sunday or Cat Power or Jay Z or Black Flag or whatever it was. I care about the order in which they started appreciate the records their parents raised them on. I care about which bands they didn’t “get” when they first heard them and if that’s changed at all. I care about the stuff that can’t be ranked.
